Internal Medicine Residency

Mission (What we do): To train the absolute best general internists to improve the health of their patients, their communities, and the systems they work in.

Vision (Why we do it): A world where every person, including those historically marginalized in healthcare, receives care from smart and compassionate generalist physicians who advocate for their needs.

Values (How we do it)

    • Continuity: Residents have continuity with a panel of patients and long-term relationships with supportive faculty who guide their growth as physicians.
    • Innovation: The program fosters creative and continuous quality improvement and engages residents in the improvement process.
    • Rigor: The curriculum emphasizes life-long learning, critical appraisal, and application of medical evidence, to provide the high quality care our patients and their families deserve.
    • Community: Training focuses on the priority health needs of our patient community and how to improve patient’s lives through clinical care, advocacy, and community engagement.
    • Learner-centered: Faculty and program leadership recognize individualized learning needs and partner with residents to meet their needs.
    • Empathy: CHA and the residency program embody a culture of empathy for our patients and for each other.

Curriculum highlights:

  • "2+4" curriculum - alternating schedule of 2 weeks of ambulatory rotations, 4 weeks of other rotations
