Internal Medicine Residency

Our Mission: to prepare our residents for careers in general internal medicine as clinicians, advocates, educators, and innovators within a collaborative learning environment that emphasizes critical thinking, social justice, and humanistic care.

Who we are: 24 residents (8 per class) from all over the country interested in primary care, hospitalist medicine, and “cognitive” specialties (geriatrics, ID, rheumatology, etc). Passionate about social justice, patient-centered care, and improving the lives of their patients and community.

Who we serve: Our patients speak dozens of languages, with the top four being English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.

Curriculum highlights:

  • "2+4" curriculum - alternating schedule of 2 weeks of ambulatory rotations, 4 weeks of other rotations
  • Continuity with a diverse panel of primary care patients is prioritized
  • Year-long curricula in research-based health advocacy and quality improvement
  • 1/2 day protected teaching/didactic time per week (more on ambulatory blocks)
  • Resident as teacher curriculum and close faculty mentorship for teaching conferences
  • Year-long rotations in addiction medicine, mental health, and geriatrics

Learning environment:

  • Primary care clinics (options for hospital and community-based) with high-functioning teams and a small number of dedicated preceptors
  • General medicine ward services
  • No fellowship services, so subspecialty faculty are here to teach YOU!
  • A close-knit community setting with easy access to other Boston-area hospitals for additional training opportunities
  • Curiosity and self-directed learning is encouraged!
