Ways of Giving

The Cambridge Health Alliance Foundation is the fundraising arm of Cambridge Health Alliance. You can make a general donation to the CHA Foundation, or you can designate your contribution to support a specific CHA program or activity.

Support our 140,000 patients!

When you give a gift to Cambridge Health Alliance Foundation you are giving our patients the opportunity to receive extraordinary healthcare and enabling CHA to fulfill our mission of improving the health of our communities. Over 70% of our patients are vulnerable, 57% are on public health insurance, 6% have no insurance, English is not the primary language for 44% of our patients and 30% of our care encounters involve a medical interpreter.

Outright Gifts

Your support of Cambridge Health Alliance Foundation (CHA) allows us to provide much needed services for patients in Cambridge, Somerville, Everett, Chelsea, Revere, Malden, Medford, Winthrop and people who live in Boston’s Metro North region. CHA is a vital safety net healthcare system for underserved populations facing significant barriers to care.

More Ways to Give

Named funds
Named funds can carry any name you choose, can be established to honor or memorialize someone special to you, and can be restricted to a particular medical area, department or program, or unrestricted for the area of greatest need at CHA.

Chair
A chair is a philanthropic fund that provides discretionary money to support the patient care, research and education priorities of a physician.

Endowed chair
You direct the original philanthropic contribution to exist in perpetuity, and annual distributions from the fund help support a physician or project.

Family Philanthropic Fund
A Family Philanthropic Fund provides flexibility by allowing families the opportunity to designate different areas of support over the life of the fund. The fund will make annual distributions to the area your family chooses, and at the end of each two-year period, your family may change its designated area of support.

Planned Gifts:

Bequests and estate plan gifts
You may make a bequest or gift through your estate by including a provision in your will or living trust, or by naming Cambridge Health Alliance as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy. The amount left to CHA can be expressed as a dollar amount or as a percentage of the assets to be given.

Life Income Gifts
A life income gift allows you to give assets to CHA while providing yourself or others with income for a period of time before CHA is permitted to use your gift. You may make a life income gift by transferring securities, cash, or other property to CHA or a trustee. CHA or trustee then manages the investment of the assets and pays an income to you, your designated beneficiaries, or both. Income payments continue for the beneficiaries' lives or, in some cases, for a term of up to 20 years.

There are several kinds of life income gifts available at CHA:

Charitable Gift Annuities
In exchange for an outright gift, CHA agrees by contract to pay a fixed amount each year to you and/or another beneficiary for life.

Charitable Remainder Unitrusts
You establish a trust from which you and/or other beneficiaries receive variable annual payments for life and/or a term of years. At the end of the term, the remainder of the trust assets go to CHA for the purposes you designate.

Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts
You establish a trust from which you and/or other beneficiaries receive annual payments of a fixed dollar amount for life and/or a term of years, after which the remainder of the trust assets pass to CHA for the purposes you designate.

Pooled Income Funds
Your gift goes into an investment pool that functions like a mutual fund. Investment returns are paid to you and/or other beneficiaries for life, after which your gift is withdrawn and used to support your designated purpose at CHA.
