Practicum Program

The Psychology Practicum Training Program at Cambridge Health Alliance offers advanced-practicum training for advanced graduate students in psychology.

The Practicum Program aims to develop competencies in assessing and treating persons with severe and persistent mental illness within a community health setting.

CHA will apply for practicum trainees to be appointed as Clinical Fellows at Harvard Medical School, which requires the applicant to have attained a master's degree. This would provide the appointee with access to university libraries, athletic facilities, and other benefits. Please note final appointment decisions are made at the discretion of Harvard Medical School.

Practicum placements are half-time positions that range by clinical site from 16-to-24 hours per week. All trainees receive three weeks of vacation. Vacation cannot be taken in the first and last months of training.

The practicum begins September 1, and runs through June 30. Positions are unpaid.

Applications are accepted only through our online application portal, which will open on December 12, 2025. The final deadline for applications is January 5, 2026.

How the Practicum is Structured

At CHA, the education of psychologists occurs in multidisciplinary settings. All trainees share a dual responsibility to the Psychology Division and to their placement sites, and report to the Psychology Division Training Directors as well as to their Site Director and team leaders. Each site maintains specific seminars that address the particular treatment modality within which patients are treated in the respective setting. A core seminar for all practicum trainees is led by the Director of the Psychology Practicum Training Program. Opportunities for psychology testing are required for some sites and may be optional for others.
