Beyond traditional training experiences, our residency offers a progressive curriculum with experiences in non-traditional but increasingly important areas that are essential to be a well-trained, well-prepared family physician in the future.

Always looking to benefit from our ideal location in suburban Boston, we have affiliations with several Boston-based academic organizations considered national leaders in their respective fields. Our faculty have their primary academic appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine where our family medicine influence has grown across the medical school curriculum. The Tufts Family Medicine Department leads multiple curricular areas for the medical school and has had the top rated clerkship for over a decade and running! Residents have numerous opportunities to teach medical students both clinically and in didactics.

Cambridge Health Alliance primary affiliation is with Harvard Medical School (HMS) and many of our faculty have dual academic appointments with both Tufts and Harvard. We have been active partners with the Harvard Center for Primary Care in their efforts to build a family medicine home at HMS. CHA is home to the internationally recognized Cambridge Integrated Clerkship, a longitudinal model replacing the traditional 3rd year clinical rotations for twelve HMS students for their core clinical year. We are also a primary location for HMS students seeking elective family medicine rotations. We have been active participants in the Center for Primary Care Academic Innovations Collaborative that has helped support primary care transformation in our clinic.

In 2014 Cambridge Health Alliance joined the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Accountable Care Organization making BIDMC our main tertiary care partner. We’ve capitalized on this relationship to develop high volume obstetric experiences and expanded reproductive health training in our residency program.

Dedicated to exploring growth of wellness and integrative practices within traditional healthcare delivery, our family medicine center also hosts New England School of Acupuncture student clinics twice/week. Residents rotate with the acupuncture team, and their integration gives an economical option for many of our patients who otherwise couldn’t afford these services.

TuftsFMR faculty also hold a Fellow position at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement “a leading innovator, convener, partner, and driver of results in health and health care improvement worldwide” headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. IHI has served as a partner to help us grow our improvement capacity to drive primary care transformation in our clinic, and in turn our faculty consults with IHI to inform and deliver some of their primary care programming.
