Dr. Forstein attended The College of Medicine, University of Vermont after a career of teaching high school English, where he developed a lifelong interest in teaching and education. He completed an internship at Presbyterian Hospital, Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and his residency in psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He teaches medical students and is a core faculty member in the Division of Palliative Care at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Forstein has been a principal investigator on an HIV Education and Training Grant through the federal Center for Mental Health Services, and teaches and has published on the neuropsychiatry and psychosocial aspects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and he chaired the Steering Committee on HIV Psychiatry for the APA for over 20 years, and now serves on the APA Council of Education and Life Long Learning. He was elected to the Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association from 2014-2016 He served a six year term on the Residency Review Committee for Psychiatry of The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education until 2014.

Dr. Frank is a graduate of Swarthmore College and Harvard Medical School. She completed her Adult Psychiatry Residency at Cambridge Health Alliance, where she served as Chief Resident in Medical Education. Prior to pursuing a medical career, Dr. Frank also worked professionally in theater and education. Dr. Frank’s clinical interests include work with underserved populations, emergency psychiatry, and the integration of psychotherapy approaches into diverse treatment settings. Her academic interests include curriculum development and medical education research.

Before returning to Cambridge Health Alliance as Associate Training Director, Dr. Frank worked at the University of Minnesota, where she taught both medical students and residents and served as the Associate Program Director for the Adult Psychiatry Residency. Dr. Frank is an active member of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training and serves on the AADPRT Psychotherapy Committee.
