CHA Physician Receives Research Award to Investigate Body Image

Habitual body monitoring is a regular occurrence for women; in fact, most women do it every thirty seconds. Issues with body image are a part of the many reasons women monitor themselves regularly.

CHA physician Jessica Knapp, DO, is exploring how female athletes perceive themselves, especially since “body image problems and eating disorders are more common among female athletes as compared to the general population.”

Dr. Knapp received the Young Investigator Award from the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, allowing her to continue researching body image in female athletes. This includes the relationship among body image, disordered eating, self-esteem and risky sexual activity.  Ultimately, this research will help improve the health and care of female athletes.
