HIV Prevention and Services

Cambridge Health Alliance is committed to reducing the number of HIV infections in our communities, as well as providing medical care and social services to those who are HIV positive. We accomplish these goals through outreach efforts that includes distributing language-appropriate materials, HIV counseling and testing, and by providing primary care. In all services, strict confidentiality is maintained.

HIV Primary Care

If you think you’re HIV positive, we’re here for you.

HIV Infections are still happening in our communities, even though we’re working every day to reduce the number. If you need support, we offer HIV counseling and testing in addition to primary care in a respectful space where confidentiality is strictly maintained. In addition to screenings and counseling, we offer education and resources in many languages across our communities.

The CHA Zinberg Clinic, is a dedicated HIV care site located at CHA Cambridge Hospital where you will find a multidisciplinary approach. This includes primary care, specialty care, mental health and social services (including case management), as well as acupuncture for people with HIV infection. In addition, appointments for PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis of HIV) and evaluation and treatment for viral hepatitis are available.

Prevention Integrated Counseling, Screening & Referrals

If you’re at risk for HIV, regardless of your ability to pay, you can receive HIV testing, counseling and referrals for services and treatments. You do not need to be a CHA patient to participate in this free service. These services are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, French, and Cape Verdean Creole at several sites across Cambridge and Somerville. Interpreters of other languages are also available.

Case Management

Many people with HIV struggle with housing, financial and food security as well as many other issues. You may need a case manager to help you get the emotional and social support that you need. Our case managers will help you get connected with financial assistance (rental start-up and utilities assistance), legal referrals, housing and help address family matters. Staff members speak English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole, with other languages available through our experienced multilingual interpreters.
