3D Mammography

The Breast Imaging department is proud to offer digital breast tomosynthesis, or 3D Mammography at both the Cambridge and Everett Hospital.

CHA Tomosynthesis MachineTomosynthesis Machine Tomosynthesis is a new type of mammogram that involves taking multiple slices through the breast rather than a single slice as is obtained in conventional mammography. With multiple slices, radiologists have a much more detailed and accurate image of the breast as they are better able to see through overlapping tissue. The machines in our breast imaging suites are the newest on the market and have been shown to provide the most minimal necessary radiation.

Tomosynthesis is particularly helpful in women with dense breast tissue because it allows for a more sensitive evaluation and has been proven to reduce the number of women who have to be called back for additional mammographic imaging, reducing the anxiety associated with these call-backs.

If you have any questions about breast imaging or tomosynthesis or would like to schedule a same day appointment, please call 617-665-2030 for Cambridge Hospital or 617-381-7196 for Everett Hospital.
