Cambridge Health Alliance uses the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) for applications to the Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program.
We only review completed applications. Please insure that all of the documentation is loaded onto ERAS, as we cannot offer interviews until we have all of the information listed below. [We invite applicants to interview from October through January, beginning September 30.]

Graduates (within ten years) of accredited national or international medical schools are eligible to apply. The application must include:
- a completed application form
- MSPE [Medical School Performance Evaluation] letter
- four letters of reference (at least one from a psychiatrist)
- curriculum vitae
- medical school transcript
- personal statement
- official copies of USMLE or COMLEX exam results
- Applications are accepted until November 15th.
Applicants are encouraged to schedule USMLE or COMLEX exams sufficiently early such that PASSING scores on Steps I and 2 (CK&CS) are sent before the match rank list is submitted. It is CHA policy that we do not rank applicants who do not meet licensing requirements prior to entering the rank list into the NRMP.
We encourage applicants to do a sub internship in Internal medicine, pediatrics, or family medicine during their MS4 year. If completed after the MSPE is sent, we encourage students to have an attending on that service email us directly with the results of that experience.
Foreign citizens who wish to enter the United States for postgraduate training must comply with US immigration laws, in addition to following the application procedures described above. Foreign medical school graduates should contact the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 [215-386-5900]) for details concerning their requirements. We require graduates of foreign medical schools to have had six months of training in an accredited American hospital and to have passed Steps 1 & 2 of the USMLE. We sponsor only HB1 visas, and J-1 waivers when possible. A strong command of the English language is a prerequisite.
When considering applications, we do take into account USMLE scores and number of attempts, as well as the number of years of medical activities since completion of medical school. Ethnic, racial and sexual minorities are encouraged to apply. Applicants with specific learning disabilities are encouraged to include this information so that this can be taken into consideration when scores do not reflect the otherwise outstanding achievements of the applicant.

Cambridge Health Alliance participates in the National Resident Matching Program and complies with all of its rules and regulations.
Academic appointments as a Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School begin July 1 and last for four years. The program is fully accredited by the American College of Graduate Medical Education for eight Residents per year. Residents in good standing will be eligible for specialty boards in Adult Psychiatry providing they have met the requirements as described by the Board.

All offers of appointment to CHA sponsored training programs are specifically conditioned upon a criminal background investigation and a negative drug test (uses workplace standards, including chain of custody, marijuana is excluded from the testing). Background checks will be carried out by an agency on behalf of CHA. By signing the background check release form, prospective trainees are consenting to a background investigation. The drug test must be completed within 10 days of matching (all costs are covered by CHA). It will be conducted at CHA Occupational Health for those residents within 20 miles of Boston. All others will be tested at an outside facility arranged by CHA.
