Patient & Family Advisory Council

The council (PFAC) is made up of committed volunteer patients, family members and CHA staff. We meet monthly at Cambridge Hospital. The PFAC creates structured ways for CHA to learn from patients and families. The issues raised are shared with staff to improve the healthcare experience for everyone.

Cambridge HospitalThe Mission of the Patient and Family Advisory Council is to create positive changes in our healthcare system by supporting an environment where patients and family members feel safe, respected and empowered to be partners in their care.

We are a voice for the diverse patients in our service area of Cambridge, Somerville and Boston’s Metro North region (Chelsea, Everett, Medford, Malden, Revere & Winthrop). These efforts have led to real, positive impacts on patient satisfaction and the patient experience of care.

The Four Pillars of Patient- and Family-Centered Care

  • Dignity and respect
  • Information sharing
  • Participation
  • Collaboration

Projects the PFAC is working on today:

  • Helping make it easier to get around Somerville Campus
  • Visiting families in the hospital to hear feedback on their stays
  • And more!

Cathy Haines, a PFAC volunteerWhy I Joined PFAC

“This is a group that gets things done. Recently, the PFAC has come up with improved signage and wayfinding at CHA Somerville Campus to help people get to where they are going. Another project we have been working on is providing peaceful spaces for people of all faiths to pray or meditate at each hospital.” - Cathy Haines, CHA patient and PFAC member.
