CHA Revere Mobile Market Hits Milestone of One Million Pounds of Food Distributed to Individuals in Need

In its eighth year, CHA Revere Mobile Market continues to fight food insecurity
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), an academic community health system serving Cambridge, Somerville and Boston's metro-north region, has recently surpassed one million pounds of food distributed at its Revere Mobile Market. CHA Revere Mobile Market is a partnership between Cambridge Health Alliance, The Greater Boston Food Bank, Tufts Health Plan, and Point32Health, and has been held on the first Saturday of each month since March 2018 to offer patients and local residents access to free and healthy food.
The market was established to address the growing issue of food insecurity for patients in Revere and surrounding communities. Since its inception, it has registered more than 6,500 individuals, reaching a monthly average of 550 individuals and their families over the past two years. The Market is primarily staffed by volunteers from CHA, with volunteers from the City of Revere, and Revere's Women Encouraging Empowerment. Over the course of its history, more than 325 people have volunteered to work at the Market, including some who have regularly volunteered since it began.
"Fueled by the dedication of our volunteers and partners, this milestone represents hundreds of thousands of meals supporting the health and well-being of our patients and community," said Jean Granick, program manager, Department of Community Health at Cambridge Health Alliance.
In eight years, only two markets have been canceled due to inclement weather. The Market continued to run during COVID, with fewer volunteers and social distancing measures in place. At the peak of the pandemic, the Market reached 750 monthly participants.
CHA Chief Community Officer Doug Kress added, "Since the beginning, The Greater Boston Food Bank and Tufts Health Plan, a Point32Health company, have been unwavering partners with this effort. Their longstanding partnership has allowed the program to continue and grow to meet CHA's commitment to our patients and the communities we serve."
Patrons of the Market receive seven or eight produce items, such as carrots, potatoes, beets, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, apples, oranges, broccoli, cucumbers, kale, onions, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, or berries, along with two to four non-perishable items including rice, beans, oatmeal, and peanut butter.
The rate of food insecurity in Massachusetts households has more than doubled since 2019 with a record 40 percent, or approximately 1.1 million people, experiencing food insecurity in 2025 according to the sixth annual Massachusetts Food Access Report: Hunger on the Rise (2026 Report) from The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) and Mass General Brigham. Twenty-five percent of Massachusetts residents are experiencing very low food security (regularly missing meals or going hungry), and more than half (56 percent) of food insecure households depend on charitable food donations like CHA Revere Mobile Market.
CHA Revere Mobile Market is held monthly on the first Saturday at 10 a.m. at CHA Revere Care Center at 454 Broadway in Revere, Mass. For more information, please visit: challiance.org/community-health/cha-revere-mobile-market.
