Cambridge Celebrates Disability Pride on October 4

Cambridge organizations host local event to increase visibility of the disability community

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On Saturday, October 4, Cambridge community organizations will host Celebrating Disability Pride, a festive event that aims to increase visibility, dignity and inclusion of people with disabilities while raising awareness and reducing stigma. Conceived by the Inclusive Health Coalition, a group of Cambridge residents with lived experience or caregivers of people with disabilities, this event aims to foster positive change and community celebration, modeling an inclusive and accessible public gathering. The event will be held Saturday, October 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Joan Lorentz Park at the Cambridge Public Library at 449 Broadway.

Event activities include a silent disco, arts and crafts, an open air photo booth, play street equipment, Cambridge Public Library story time, an accessibility hub, a sensory-friendly area with tactile activities, free pizza and ice cream, and more. Complimentary wheelchair-accessible shuttle service will be provided to and from the event with convenient stops at all library branches throughout the city from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Celebrating Disability Pride is sponsored by the Inclusive Health Coalition, the City of Cambridge, Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Cambridge Public Health Department, Cambridge Health Alliance, Metropolitan Area Planning Council, the Committee on Civic Unity, Cambridge Recreation, Cambridge Peace Commission, and Cambridge Arts.
