CHA Cambridge Hospital Receives an “A” for Patient Safety

CHA Cambridge Hospital has been awarded an ‘A’ grade in the new Hospital Safety Grades released by The Leapfrog Group.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – CHA Cambridge Hospital, part of academic community health system Cambridge Health Alliance, has been awarded an ‘A’ grade in the new Hospital Safety Grades released by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit that rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months. It is based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

“Quality and safety are top priorities for everyone here at CHA, “said CHA CEO Assaad Sayah, MD. “Our ‘A’ grade is a reflection of our staff’s dedication to building a culture of safety. It is especially gratifying to receive this recognition as staff and providers at CHA have had to face new challenges every day during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

CHA Cambridge Hospital was awarded an ‘A’ grade today when Leapfrog updated grades for fall 2020.
