CHA family physician Kathe Miller, MD, is a recipient of the 2020 A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award from Harvard Medical School. The honor recognizes HMS faculty who provide quality mentoring relationships that have an impact on development and career advancement in clinical medicine, teaching and research.

Each year, HMS faculty members, house officers, fellows and students nominate mentors who have provided sponsorship and supported personal and professional development. Dr. Miller and other recipients of this year’s Mentoring Awards were celebrated during a virtual ceremony on September 14 hosted by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Miller sees patients at the CHA Windsor Street Care Center and is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Miller has been the family medicine advisor at Harvard Medical School for the last ten years and was the inaugural director of the HMS Home for Family Medicine, which is part of the HMS Center for Primary Care. In addition, Dr. Miller directs the Foundational Continuity Clinic, a required first-year course within the Practice of Medicine curriculum. She is an active teacher in the Foundational Continuity Clinic and Primary Care Clerkship at HMS, and directs the HMS Family Medicine elective.

She received her medical degree and completed a family residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Dr. Miller’s special interest areas include care of at-risk and marginalized populations, multi-generational families, reproductive health, and working with immigrants. Most recently she has been a front-line provider for Cambridge Health Alliance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Miller is also a past recipient of the Preceptor of the Year and Family Physician of the Year by the Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians. She was also previously honored by the Harvard Center for Primary Care, receiving the Excellence in Primary Care Teaching award.
