CHA Welcomes New Chief Medical Information Officer Hannah Galvin, MD
Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), an academic community health system serving Cambridge, Somerville and Boston's metro-north region, has named Hannah Galvin, MD, as its new Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO).
Dr. Galvin has more than fifteen years of experience in clinical informatics and is focused on leveraging health information technology solutions to improve the delivery of patient-centered care.
At CHA, Dr. Galvin will oversee the health system's initiatives to advance the use of electronic medical records (EMRs) and other technologies to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of patient care.
“Now more than ever, with the outbreak of COVID-19, enabling patients at CHA to access their care teams via telehealth and other digital tools is pivotal to our mission,” said Brian Herrick, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “Dr. Galvin’s unique background caring for diverse populations coupled with her expertise in technology-enabled workflows and population health data analytics will allow CHA to make significant strides in delivering high-quality patient care to our patient population.”
Dr. Galvin most recently served as Medical Director of Informatics at Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH). At BILH, she implemented complex informatics initiatives to support organizational quality and business goals including care of aging and diverse populations, behavioral health integration and control of opioids. Dr. Galvin helped to lead the rollout and optimization of Epic, the achievement of HIMSS stage 7 and Epic Honor Roll, implementation of Google, and other advancements of technology to achieve superior clinical, research and business outcomes while providing culturally-sensitive, evidence-based care.
Additionally, Dr. Galvin is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine and a member of the American Medical Informatics Association and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society as well as a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Galvin has guided national workgroups and served as an advisor to health information technology vendors, professional societies and the government regarding complex issues of privacy.
Dr. Galvin completed her undergraduate degree in biological sciences at Wellesley College and received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency with the Boston Children’s Hospital/Boston Medical Center Combined Residency in Pediatrics and is dual board-certified in Clinical Informatics and Pediatrics. Dr. Galvin joined CHA in mid-June.
