CHA Everett Hospital Receives an “A” for Patient Safety in Fall 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades

Everett, Mass. – CHA Everett Hospital, part of academic community health system Cambridge Health Alliance, has been awarded an “A” grade in the new Hospital Safety Grades released by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. CHA Everett Hospital was one of 832 hospitals that earned an A for its commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S.

“At CHA, we continuously look for ways to improve safety and the quality of care,” said Paul Allen, MD, MPH, CHA’s chief quality officer. “Our ‘A’ grade is a reflection of our staff’s dedication to building a culture of safety and quality here. It is gratifying when a well-respected third party such as The Leapfrog Group looks at what we are doing and validates our commitment and effort to provide a safe and exceptional patient care experience.”

Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The Score is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families. A full analysis of the data and methodology used is available on the Hospital Safety Score website.

The Leapfrog Group (www.leapfroggroup.org) is a national nonprofit organization using the collective leverage of large purchasers of health care to initiate breakthrough improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of health care for Americans. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey allows purchasers to structure their contracts and purchasing to reward the highest performing hospitals. The Leapfrog Group was founded in November 2000 with support from the Business Roundtable and national funders and is now independently operated with support from its purchaser and other members.
