City Officials Welcome New Mental Health Services to CHA Everett Hospital

Cambridge Health Alliance leadership and local officials celebrate the opening of new Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Services at CHA Everett Hospital.

EVERETT, Mass. - On Thursday, October 12, Everett City Councilor Mike McLaughlin, Kevin O'Donnell, Chief of Staff from Mayor Carlo DeMaria's office, Cambridge Health Alliance leadership and staff celebrated the opening of CHA Everett Hospital's first Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Services. "After soliciting input from our patients and communities, and undergoing an intensive strategic planning initiative, we determined that there was a critical demand for mental health and substance use support in Everett and surrounding communities," said Edgardo Trejo, MD, Interim Chief, CHA Department of Psychiatry. CHA has a long-standing commitment to providing outpatient mental health services in Cambridge and Somerville and is delighted to bring that expertise to patients in Everett. "Providing new outpatient services at CHA Everett Hospital is a natural next step and addition to our two inpatient psychiatry units at the hospital," stated Renee Kessler, Executive VP and COO. CHA plans to open additional outpatient psychiatry services in Revere in 2018 so CHA can continue to provide essential care to patients where they live and where they need it most.

The Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Services occupy a newly renovated space within CHA Everett Hospital. There are five private consultation rooms and a spacious group therapy room. The light-filled waiting room has ample and comfortable seating.

Councilor McLaughlin helped to capture the communal tone of the evening by sharing his personal story of arriving at CHA Everett years ago with a brain injury and the essential care he was given that saved his life. "This hospital will always hold a special place in my heart. Adding outpatient psychiatry services is greatly needed here. Among many crown jewels within the City of Everett this CHA hospital is among them and the best that our community could possibly have. It's where our people can get quality care from people that truly care. We are grateful to have it."

Individuals who are stepping-down from inpatient care at any one of CHA's hospital's or have a CHA primary care provider will be able to access outpatient services at the hospital through a referral.
