State Legislators Learn How CHA Trains the Next Generation of Physicians
Posted Date: 3/31/2014
Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) welcomed a group of state legislators, political staffers, and policy leaders to its Cambridge Hospital campus on March 25 as part of Project Medical Education (PME), an event organized by the Conference of Boston Teaching HospitalsPME, a national initiative of the Association of American Medical Colleges, educates policy makers on the critical role of graduate medical education, as participants visit teaching hospitals in Boston for one day and are "fast-tracked" through a simulated medical school education and residency program.

Pat Wardell, CEOProject Medical Education Rounds

The PME "residents" received an overview of CHA by CEO Patrick Wardell and learned about our training programs from Marshall Forstein, MD, Director of Training for the Adult Psychiatry Residency program, and Rick Pels, MD, Director of Graduate Medical Education. After hearing about life as a resident physician at CHA from chief residents Jason Lambrese, MD, Alison Rapoport, MD, and Nicole Salg, MD, the group visited the Primary Care Center, inpatient unit 4-West, and the Child Assessment Unit to get a more detailed understanding of each area and its unique focus on training.

The PME participants were very impressed with CHA's multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary care coordination for patients and how it extended past hospital walls.
