INPATIENT ADDICTIONS SERVICE

Inpatient Detoxification Unit

Patient population: 18+ years of age
Number of beds: 26
Location: Somerville Hospital
Hours: 24 hours a day/7 days a week

Intake: 617-591-4227

The Inpatient Detoxification Unit is a 26-bed unit for the treatment of individuals with alcohol and other substance dependence. It is served by a Central Intake for Addictions Service that provides 24-hour, seven-days-per-week intake for any acute addiction service need. The Detoxification Unit is led by an ASAM-certified internist who is supported by in-house psychiatry consultation, available daily.

A fundamental goal of treatment planning is to identify precipitants necessitating inpatient care, those leading to an acute illness or an exacerbation of a chronic condition. Process goals are related to detoxification, medical evaluation and treatment, reasons for relapse, re-stabilization of patient, and timely coordinated discharge planning.
