The Alliance continues its strong tradition as a dedicated
training site for Tufts-New England Medical Center (NEMC) residency
program. Third-year OB/GYN residents from Tufts rotate at The Cambridge
Hospital for 10 weeks at a time. This rotation is an excellent,
concentrated experience in gynecologic surgery. When not in surgery,
the residents are supervised in medically challenging ambulatory
settings. The resident is responsible for all inpatient management
and decision making under the supervision of The Cambridge Hospital
attending Obstetrician/Gynecologists. In addition, the resident
supervises and instructs a team of medical students, physician assistants.
Three additional NEMC OB/GYN residents conduct continuity
clinics at the Women's Health Center. These three residents care
for both obstetrical and gynecological patients in weekly sessions,
over three years of their training. Arthur Spector, MD, serves as
the Medical Director of the Residency Program and oversees all of
the residents' ambulatory sessions including colposcopy.
Medical Students Training Program
After many years of training third-year medical students
from Tufts University, Cambridge Health Alliance continues to be
among the top rated sites for student training. Under the director
of Miriam Goldfarb, MD and Andrea Chisholm, MD the Tufts medical
students receive a comprehensive OB/GYN rotation in both the ambulatory
and inpatient settings. Cambridge Health Alliance received the highest
scores for the Tufts third-year OB/GYN Clerkship. The students consistently
reported that their experience at Cambridge Health Alliance was
the best of the five hospitals surveyed.
Midwifery Training Program
The Alliance's Midwifery service has a superb reputation
as a clinical training site for both basic and advanced students
of midwifery. Recently, students were precepted from the University
of Rhode Island Midwifery Program, Boston University Midwifery Program,
and Yale University's Program in Midwifery.
Physician Assistant Training Program
The Alliance hosts Physician Assistant students from
Northeastern University for their six week clinical training in
Obstetrics and gynecology. The student functions as an integral
part of the medical team, participating in births, surgeries, inpatient
rounds, and ambulatory experiences. The PA student gains valuable
medical experience as well as cultural competency during this rotation
at Cambridge Health Alliance.
