DOULA PROGRAM
The Cambridge Birth Center serves a culturally diverse
population. Some women are recent immigrants without a family support
system nearby. Others have family members working long hours who
may not be able to provide the needed support during birth or postpartum.
For many different reasons, a women and her baby can feel secure
knowing that our doulas can help to make their birth experience
a positive one.
The Cambridge Doulas are women trained to help, support,
encourage and accompany women during pregnancy, labor, and birth
and postpartum, much like a mother or sister would.
Currently we have 17 doulas who speak 10 languages
combined. These caring women help make a difference in the lives
of mothers and their babies during a very joyous yet challenging
time. Our Doula program is supported by grants from the Boston Foundation,
the Jesse Cox charitable trust, and the Somerville family network.
