Dennis D. Keefe
Chief Executive Officer, Cambridge Health Alliance

Dennis Keefe has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) and the Commissioner of Public Health for the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts, since 2002. Under Mr. Keefe's leadership, CHA has grown significantly, becoming an over $1 Billion integrated healthcare delivery system. He has overseen the implementation of significant capital and program improvements including a new emergency department at the Whidden Hospital campus, a new Breast Center at the Cambridge Hospital campus, and a number of new technologies throughout the organization. Mr. Keefe also led CHA through a significant service reconfiguration plan which stabilized the foundation of CHA to serve its employees and patients now and in the future.

Mr. Keefe has worked in academic teaching facilities and community hospitals for over 30 years with experience as both Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. He previously worked at CHA as an Associate Administrator of Professional Services and Chief Operating Officer, managing the day-to-day operations of what was then a $350 Million system.

Mr. Keefe is the current Chair of the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA). In this position, he is instrumental in guiding MHA in its mission to advance the health of individuals and communities throughout the state by serving as the leading voice for all Massachusetts hospitals and healthcare systems. Additionally, he sits on the executive committee of the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems and currently is Board Chair of the National Public Health and Hospital Institute.

In 2008, Mr. Keefe was honored with a lifetime achievement award from Massachusetts advocacy organization Health Care for All for his efforts to improve access to medical care in Massachusetts and, in 2009, received the American College of Healthcare Executives' Massachusetts Healthcare Executive of the Year Award.

He is a highest honors graduate of Northeastern University where he received the Dean's Citation Award as the top student in the Health Sciences Program. Mr. Keefe also earned a master's degree in business administration, with a focus in health care administration, from Northeastern University, and was honored as the 2005 Alumnus of the Year by Northeastern University.
