Having Your Baby at the Cambridge Birth Center

CHA Birth Center

The Cambridge Birth Center opened in December 1997 in a renovated Victorian home. Our intimate atmosphere provides a truly homelike experience for women and their families who are looking for an alternative to a traditional hospital birth.

We are fully accredited by the American Association of Birth Centers and have been named a Baby Friendly Facility by the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nation Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Why choose the Cambridge Birth Center

  • A focus on comfort. We have three comfortable birth rooms with deep Jacuzzi bathtubs, a family room, kitchen, living room and garden. We also have a small child's play area, an elevator for handicapped access, and three exam rooms for prenatal and gynecological care.
  • Freedom to move about. Supported by family and friends during labor, you have the freedom to move about the Birth Center and garden. Our Doulas can provide additional support during labor and postpartum home support, if you need.
  • A very personal touch. You will find personal care from staff who understand the physical, emotional and cultural needs of women. From the beginning of pregnancy through birth and postpartum, the choices are yours, as you work with your midwife to create your unique childbirth experience.
  • We understand that childbirth is truly a family event. Let our highly trained team support and encourage your family to play an active role in welcoming your baby.

Who can use the Cambridge Birth Center?

We support the natural process of pregnancy and childbirth. Many pregnancies and births do not require the care or interventions available in a hospital. If your pregnancy is healthy and without medical problems, the Cambridge Birth Center is a safe and satisfying option for the birth of your baby.

In the event of hospital care

In the event that you or your baby need hospital care, you will be transferred to our Maternity Suite. This is at Cambridge Hospital, right across the street. The midwives will continue to provide your care with the help of our OB/GYN doctors or pediatricians, as necessary.
