WELCOME

Cambridge Health Alliance is an academic public health system that is helping people live better lives. Based in Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston’s metro-north region, we provide patient care, education, and outreach in hospitals, health centers, schools, community centers, and through some very special programs, right in people’s homes.

As one of the ten largest health systems in Massachusetts, and as a public hospital system, we care for all those in need – from university professors to the underserved. We do this with medical services, public health programs, and through Network Health. With this coordinated system, we are able to meet the needs of the public, and the health needs of each patient.

Today, we are proud to touch peoples’ lives in a number of ways. We are more than a health system; we are an integral part of our communities. Maybe that’s why patients come to us more than a half million times each year, and trust us to give them the very best healthcare.

Our Mission – To improve the health of our communities

Our Vision – Cambridge Health Alliance is the premier academic public health care system in the nation

Our Values – Compassion, Integrity, Respect, Community, Learning, and Excellence

BUILDING HEALTHY COMMUNITIES

Cambridge Health Alliance provides care in more than 20 locations – close to our patients’ work and homes – and we operate dozens of programs that address larger community health issues. Our strong community focus and community connections guide our efforts, allowing us to better meet the needs of the people we serve. Examples include:

  • Our Staff. Nearly 2,000 of our employees live in our communities, and we have more than two dozen local residents who serve on our governing boards.
  • Public Health Programs. Targeted programs allow us to address specific community health needs such as Asthma, Diabetes, Drug Use, HIV, Obesity, and Dental Health. We also fund several coalitions that empower the people we serve, forge unique partnerships, and build healthier communities.
  • Volunteers. Our Volunteer Health Advisor program includes 200 specially-trained volunteers who spread health information in churches, hair salons, and community centers. This effort is so successful it was recognized by the American Hospital Association as a national model.

MEETING THE NEEDS OF PATIENTS

At Cambridge Health Alliance, patient care is at the center of what we do. As the last public hospital system in Massachusetts we are dedicated to our patients and we strive to provide high-quality care in the most welcoming manner. This includes:

  • Shorter wait times for appointments. Our primary care scheduling system often lets patients make appointments and be seen within 24-48 hours, even for a routine check-up.
  • Emergency care at three hospital campuses. Our expert staff provides 24 hour emergency care at three convenient locations.
  • Breaking down language barriers. Our multilingual interpreters speak nearly 50 languages and offer telephone interpreting for 90 more. These services are provided free to patients and help people from across the world understand their health choices.
  • Providing key health services. We offer comprehensive care using the latest technology across our regional system. And we are one of the largest mental health providers in Massachusetts, helping thousands of people manage life’s challenges and live better lives.

TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION OF MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS

As a public healthcare system affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Cambridge Health Alliance has become a premier training site for those interested in community based medicine. Each year, hundreds of students and residents train at our sites and use their skills to improve the health of our patients. Many of them choose to stay in our system upon graduation, benefiting today’s patients, and letting us provide excellent care for years to come.
