The CHA Department of Psychiatry

Based in Cambridge, MA, our department serves patients of all ages at locations across Boston's metro-north communities. People who come here find a world-class team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and nurses who care deeply about their patients and have a passion for serving those in greatest need. More than 400 of our staff serve as faculty at Harvard Medical School - teaching students, mentoring trainees, and conducting important research.

Patients who visit us find that we partner closely with Primary Care and strive to provide care in the most appropriate settings. We also have strong community connections that help emphasize prevention and wellness. Psychiatric emergency services and hospital care is available for patients in acute need.

Connecting to Our Communities

James Barrett, PhD, is part of the innovative Cambridge Safety Net Collaborative, partnering with police, schools, and youth services to keep kids out of court. Since 2007 this program has diverted hundreds of youths into structured activities, like sports leagues and after-school programs, linking them to mental health care as needed. Read more in the Harvard Gazette.

Nancy Rappaport, MD, writes in the Huffington Post on how to counsel kids returning to school after the Boston Marathon tragedy.   William Pollack, PhD, discusses Boys, Men, and Violence on NECN's Broadside.
