Having Your Baby at Cambridge Health Alliance

We know having a baby is one of life's most joyous events! We want you to have the birth experience that is right for you, so we offer our growing families many options.

When it is time to welcome your new family member into the world, you have the choice of a well-equipped traditional hospital Maternity Suite or a homelike freestanding Birth Center.

We also offer different choices for prenatal care:

Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN) Physicians
These doctors specialize in reproductive health for women, including prenatal care and childbirth. If you choose an OB/GYN physician you will have your baby at the Cambridge Hospital Campus Maternity Suite.

Certified Nurse Midwives
These specially trained nurses offer a highly personal, natural approach to prenatal care and childbirth. If you choose a Midwife you can have your baby at the Cambridge Hospital Campus Maternity Suite or the more intimate Cambridge Birth Center.

Family Medicine Physicians
Many of these primary care doctors also have special training in women's health, prenatal care, and childbirth. If you already see a Family Medicine doctor for your general health needs, ask about your options for pregnancy care. Family Medicine physicians deliver at the Cambridge Hospital Maternity Suite.

Maternal Fetal Medicine
Maternal-Fetal Medicine services, from our affiliated Tufts-New England Medical Center, are available for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies. These specialists look at the health of the mother and the unborn child simultaneously to reduce risk factors. Also, on site genetic counseling and prenatal diagnostics are available.

Doulas
Doulas are women trained to help, support, encourage and accompany women during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum, much like a mother or sister would. A woman and her baby can feel secure knowing that our doulas can help to make their birth experience a positive one. We have 17 doulas who speak 10 languages combined. These caring women help make a difference in the lives of mothers and their babies during a very joyous yet challenging time.
