WHAT IS A HEMATOLOGIST/ONCOLOGIST?
Hematologist/Oncologists are trained in hematology (the study of blood) and oncology (the study of cancer). Hematologists diagnose and treat blood related conditions. Oncologists are physicians who study, diagnose, and treat cancerous tumors. They educate patients about their illness and explain what course of treatment will take place and the amount of radiation, chemotherapy, or drugs that should be used. They also monitor and care for patients during and after treatment.
