CHA Receives Avon Grant to Support Breast Health Services
Posted Date: 7/1/2014
CHA Breast Health Services and AvonThe Avon Foundation recently awarded a $100,000 grant to CHA to support breast health services in the communities it serves. Since 2004, the Avon Foundation has provided over $1.8 million in funding to CHA for its breast health services. This latest grant supports CHA's patient navigators, who work at the Cambridge Breast Center, its satellite clinic at the Surgical Specialties department at CHA's Whidden Hospital campus, and in the Department of Community Affairs.

CHA's patient navigators help patients access breast health services in a number of ways. They ensure that those who have abnormal test results are able to follow up with recommended care. They assess and provide knowledgeable and compassionate support to every CHA patient diagnosed with breast cancer to make sure he or she can complete recommended treatment. They also conduct community outreach through a service called the Breast Health Connection that educates the community and ensures that all residents have access to the care they need.

Additionally, the funding supports periodic Saturday mammography screening clinics and transportation services to assist patients to get to appointments.

Cambridge Health Alliance is a vital and innovative community health system that provides essential services to Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston’s metro-north communities. It includes three hospital campuses, a network of primary care and specialty practices, and the Cambridge Public Health Department. CHA is a Harvard Medical School teaching affiliate and is also affiliated with Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and Tufts University School of Medicine.
