If you are planning joint replacement surgery at CHA, you will need to take our Joint Class. This class is important and required.

What You Will Learn:

  • Details about the surgery
  • How to prevent complications and infections
  • What to do before surgery (checklist)
  • What to expect the day of surgery and in the hospital
  • How to manage your pain
  • The role of Physical and Occupational Therapy
  • What happens when you leave the hospital (home vs. short term rehab)

Total Joint Class Schedule

Please note: You MUST sign up for this class in advance. Call the Orthopaedic Department at 617-665-1566.

All total joint classes are now offered online. We can get you an interpreter if needed.

The Teachers

Learn from our physician assistant (PA) and physical therapist (PT). They will be able to answer any questions you have about your surgery.

We encourage you to bring a family member or friend with you to class, particularly someone who will be helping you after your surgery.

You will be provided with paper copies of all class materials presented before your joint class.
