ABOUT US
The Women's Headache Center is a new facility designed by women
for women. It offers a peaceful setting with soothing colors, music,
and seating designed to reduce headache triggers while you wait
to be seen by our team.
Our team includes top doctors, including board-certified neurologists
and psychiatrists, experts in alternative medical therapies, and
a caring support staff. We also have an advisory board that helps
guide our decisions and helps us provide the most patient-focused
care.
The Center is also involved in research looking at various aspects
of migraine diagnosis and treatment.
We are operated by Cambridge Health Alliance, a regional healthcare
system with three hospitals and more than twenty primary care practices
located in Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston's Metro-north region.
Why is the Center for women only?
Research has shown that 75% of people who have migraines are women.
Women also tend to report higher levels of pain, longer headache
time, and more severe symptoms, such as nausea and vomiting.
Hormones may also trigger migraines. More than half of women with
migraines report that they occur right before, during, or after
their period. And some women start getting them when they enter
menopause.
