The Division of Neurology helps patients with
a wide range of disorders that affect the brain and nervous system.
We see patients in all settings - emergency room, in the hospital,
and in our outpatient offices.
We are designated as a primary stroke service by the
MA Department of Public Health at all three of our hospital campuses.
What is a Neurologist?
A neurologist is a doctor with special training in the functions
of the brain, spinal cord and nerves and muscles. Neurologists do
not perform surgery.
We see patients with many health issues including:
- Dizziness
- Numbness/Weakness
- Headache
- Seizures
- Tremors/Shaking
- Balance problems
- Memory difficulties
- Certain types of pain
- Brain and spinal cord injuries
Understanding your health needs
Understanding your specific health need is the first step toward
effective treatment. Your neurologist will make a diagnosis by getting
a detailed health history and performing tests in the exam room
for vision, strength, coordination, reflexes, and touch.
Sometimes we need to do tests such as CT, MRI, EEG, Sleep studies
or EMG. Most of these tests are painless, but we will explain them
to you in more detail if needed.
Services:
- Neurodiagnostic testing in the form of EEG (electroencephalography,
brain wave)
- Basic electrophysiologic testing
- EMG - electromyography
- NCV - nerve conduction velocity
- Carotid ultrasound (Doppler) testing
- Multiple sclerosis evaluation and treatment
We do consults every weekday and a neurologist is on call for emergencies
at all times. Appointments are made through the Medical Specialty
Offices. Please call for hours and appointment availability.
