The CHA Nephrology team treats kidney problems for patients in the hospital and during office visits.

Why do people see a Nephrologist (Kidney Doctor)?

Most people have two kidneys. They are about the size of a fist and are located on either side of the spine behind your lower ribs.

The kidneys are very important to your health. They remove waste and fluid from your body. They also have many other functions, including:

  • Remove waste and drugs from the body
  • Balance the body's fluids
  • Make hormones that regulate blood pressure
  • Make vitamin D to keep your bones strong
  • Control the way your body makes red blood cells

There are many types of kidney disease. For example, if you have diabetes or high blood pressure, this may affect your kidneys. You may inherit kidney problems from your parents. Some people also get kidney stones because of their diet or the way their bodies are working.

Some of the conditions we help with are:

  • Kidney problems
  • Kidney stones
  • High Blood Pressure (hypertension)
  • Electrolyte iImbalance
  • Blood in uUrine
  • Kidney cysts
  • Protein in the uUrine
