HEPATITIS
SERVICES
Hepatitis is
an inflammation of the liver that has many causes. Some reasons
for hepatitis may include viruses and bacteria, spread from person-to-person,
or liver damage from alcohol or drugs. It can also be caused by
inherited diseases like cystic fibrosis.
CHA has a number
of services for Hepatitis treatment and prevention. These include
the following:
Hepatitis
Clinic
The CHA Hepatitis
clinic is located at the Somerville Hospital campus (6th floor,
south building). It is run by Dr. Linda Shipton, who is board-certified
in Infectious Disease. Appointments are available Monday mornings.
The clinic evaluates
and treats patients with Hepatitis B and C (patients co-infected
with HIV are welcome). The number to make an appointment is 617-591-4350.
Hepatitis
C Testing and Counseling
The CHA Community
Affairs team offers testing for Hepatitis C and counseling about
Hepatitis transmission and prevention. they also provide referrals
for treatment.
Counseling sessions
are available on an individual or group basis. Staff members speak
English and Spanish, by can make arrangements for interpreters in
other languages if needed. Materials are available in English, Spanish,
