Cambridge Health Alliance Emergency Site Chief
Named President of the Mass. College of Emergency Physicians
Cambridge, MA…The Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians
(MACEP) recently elected Luis Lobón, MD, Site Chief of Emergency
Medicine at Cambridge Health Alliance's Cambridge Hospital campus,
as its President for the 2010-2011 period.
Dr. Lobón joined Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) in 2007
and has played a critical role in significant enhancements made
in the emergency department at CHA's Cambridge Hospital campus.
New rapid assessment protocols, the implementation of an electronic
patient tracking system, and the addition of patient partners have
resulted in enhanced efficiency, quality, and patient flow. The
emergency department's length of stay has decreased 15 percent while
patient satisfaction has jumped more than 30 percent.
Board-certified in emergency medicine and a fellow of the American
College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Lobón has conducted
extensive research in the field. In 2004, Dr. Lobón received
the Metropolitan Boston EMS Council President's Award in recognition
of his outstanding dedication and significant contributions to the
improvement of emergency medical services within the region. In
2008, he received the Council's Physician of the Year Award.
In his new role, Dr. Lobón will guide MACEP, whose membership
numbers over 750 emergency physicians, as it advances excellence
in emergency care while advocating for physicians, their patients,
and the health of the community. He has served on MACEP's Board
of Directors since 2007 as Education Committee chair and was later
elected to the Executive Board.
Dr. Lobón received his medical degree from the University
of Cantabria Faculty of Medicine (Spain) and performed his internship
and residencies in emergency medicine in New York City at Albert
Einstein College of Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Beth Israel
Medical Center, and Elmhurst Hospital Center. He received a master's
degree in health management and finance from New York University's
Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. He is an instructor
in medicine at Harvard Medical School.
