Cambridge Health Alliance Hospital Campus Honored
for Cardiac Arrest Care
Cambridge, MA…Cambridge Health Alliance's Cambridge Hospital
campus recently received the CARES Award for its community work
to improve the care of patients with cardiac arrest. The Cardiac
Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES) program is run by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Emory University
School of Medicine.
The award recognizes hospitals for partnering with the community,
public health agencies, and emergency medical services to save more
lives from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. CHA worked with Professional
Ambulance and the Cambridge Fire Department to boost community awareness,
improve equipment, and enhance CPR performance and response times.
CHA has made tremendous advancements in the emergency departments
at all three of its hospital campuses (Whidden, Cambridge, and Somerville),
resulting in enhanced efficiency, quality, volume, and patient satisfaction.
New rapid assessment protocols, the implementation of an electronic
patient tracking system, and the addition of patient greeters all
have contributed to improved patient flow.
"Our emergency department length of stay has decreased 13
percent while patient satisfaction has jumped almost 10 percent,"
said Assaad Sayah, MD, CHA's Chief of Emergency Medicine. "Our
collaboration to help patients suffering from cardiac arrest is
an extension of our ED overhaul, and we are pleased our efforts
have been recognized by CARES."
