Cambridge Health Alliance Physician Steffie Woolhandler, MD, MPH, Receives Excellence in Mentoring Award from Harvard Medical
School
Cambridge, MA...Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) announced
today that Steffie Woolhandler, MD, MPH, a staff physician and Associate
Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS), is a recipient
of the 2008-2009 A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award.
The Office for Diversity and Community Partnership at HMS sponsors
the award, which was recently presented at the thirteenth annual
Awards Ceremony, held at the Tosteson Medical Education Center at
HMS.
Dr. Woolhandler teaches clinical medicine to residents and medical
students at CHA's Cambridge Hospital campus, where she maintains
a primary care practice. As CHA's Director of Faculty Development
and Academic Promotions, she assists faculty members in honing their
writing and teaching skills and plays a key role in developing their
research for publication in major peer-reviewed journals. She also
serves as co-director of HMS's General Medicine Faculty Development
and Fellowship Program. Additionally, Dr. Woolhandler is a noted
health policy expert who has authored more than 50 research articles
on health care access and financing.
The A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award honors the
memory of A. Clifford Barger, who devoted his career to bringing
out the best in those who studied, trained, and worked at HMS. Each
year, HMS faculty members, house officers, fellows, and students
nominate mentors who have provided sponsorship and supported personal
and professional development. A selection committee, with representatives
from HMS and its affiliated hospitals, carefully reviews all nominees'
mentoring qualities and chooses the award recipients.
