Randy Wertheimer, MD, Appointed Family Medicine Chair at Tufts University School of Medicine
Cambridge, MA…Randy Wertheimer, MD, Chief of Family Medicine
at Cambridge Health Alliance, has been appointed the Jaharis Family
Chair in Family Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine
(TUSM). She will continue to serve as an associate professor in
the Department of Family Medicine at TUSM, a role she has held since
June 2008.
Dr. Wertheimer is actively involved in medical education and oversees
the Tufts University Family Medicine Residency, based at the CHA
Malden Family Medicine Center. She has played a key role in increasing
primary care access in Cambridge, Somerville, and metro-north Boston.
She is currently a member of the Massachusetts Board of Registration
of Medicine, where she handles physician regulatory and quality
issues.
A past president of the Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians,
Dr. Wertheimer has received a number of awards for community service,
clinical work, and teaching. She was the Principal Investigator
of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to expand access to care
in central Massachusetts. In 2001, she received the Katherine Erskine
Award for distinction in Medicine and Science from the YWCA, demonstrating
outstanding leadership in developing innovative service and teaching
programs in health care for women.
Dr. Wertheimer was previously the Vice Chair and Associate Professor
of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at University
of Massachusetts School of Medicine. She earned a bachelor's degree
from Swarthmore College and graduated from Boston University School
of Medicine.
