Cambridge Health Alliance Psychiatrist Named to Residency Review Committee of National Accreditation Organization
Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Revere, Somerville, Winthrop, MA…Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) announced today that psychiatrist Marshall Forstein, MD, has been appointed to the Residency Review Committee for Psychiatry of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). ACGME is a national organization that sets accreditation standards for all residency training in psychiatry and conducts reviews of each program. Dr. Forstein was named to the position by the president of the American Psychiatric Association.
The appointment reflects the extensive contributions Dr. Forstein has made to the field of psychiatry during the last 20 years. A multifaceted physician and educator, Dr. Forstein has improved clinical and educational activities at CHA through his leadership, program development, teaching, supervision, and consultation. He has also provided national leadership in the development of educational literature and curriculum on the psychiatric and psychological manifestations of HIV and on the treatment of gay and lesbian individuals, couples, and families.
Upon becoming Director of CHA’s Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program in 2003, Dr. Forstein organized a broad-based review of the curriculum to ensure that CHA best utilizes the educational settings and faculty within its Department of Psychiatry. This effort has generated enthusiastic participation by both faculty and residents and has led to a renewed commitment of faculty to develop new seminars and tutorials in areas of rapid advance in the field.
In addition to his responsibilities at CHA, Dr. Forstein serves as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
