John D. Halporn, MD, Named Chief of Hospitalist Service at Cambridge Health Alliance
Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Revere, Somerville, Winthrop, MA...Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) announced today it has named John D. Halporn, MD, the new Chief of CHA’s Hospitalist Service.
Dr. Halporn is a well-regarded physician who comes to CHA from Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA, where he served as Hospitalist Service Director and Associate Chair of the Department of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and is board-certified in internal medicine. Dr. Halporn is also an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and a graduate of Case Western Reserve School of Medicine.
The appointment of Dr. Halporn signals the commitment CHA has made to expand its Hospitalist Service. Hospitalists are physicians who focus on the general medical care of hospitalized patients, managing the entire course of care for inpatients. The hospitalist model has been adopted by many health systems nationwide, and the growth of the service at CHA will improve the quality of care for its medical/surgical patients.
Other recent additions to CHA’s Hospitalist Service include Simon Ahtaridis, MD, graduate of CHA’s internal medicine residency program and a former chief resident; Sarah Cutrona, MD, who completed her internal medicine residency at Rhode Island Hospital and a general medicine fellowship at CHA; Giulia Scarantino, MD, another former CHA internal medicine resident; and Monisha Arya, MD, an internist and infectious disease specialist who has served as a consultant for CHA since 2006. They join new staff members Stephen Gamboa, MD, and Nicholas Burwick, MD, both part-time hospitalists.
Cambridge Health Alliance is a regional healthcare system with three hospitals and more than twenty primary care practices in Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston’s metro-north communities. As a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, Cambridge Health Alliance offers medical residency/training programs and undergraduate learning experiences in hospital and community settings. Cambridge Health Alliance also includes the Cambridge Public Health Department, CHA Physician’s Organization (CHAPO), and Network Health, a managed Medicaid and Commonwealth Care plan.
