Cambridge Health Alliance Physician Receives Excellence in Teaching Award From American Psychiatric Association

Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Revere, Somerville, Winthrop, MA…Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) announced today that Suzanne A. Bird, MD, received the annual Irma Bland Award for Excellence in Teaching Residents presented by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Council on Medical Education and Lifelong Learning. Named for Irma Bland, MD, a nationally recognized educator, clinician, and administrator in the mental health arena, the award recognizes Dr. Bird's teaching, mentoring, and role modeling for psychiatric residents, and is one of a select few given nationally each year. The award was presented at the APA’s 2007 Annual Meeting in San Diego.

Dr. Bird is Medical Director of CHA’s Psychiatric Emergency Service and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Bird is integrally involved in the training of psychiatric residents at CHA and acts as a supervisor for residents’ after-hours on-call work in the Psychiatric Emergency Service. She earned her medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School in 1985 and completed her residency in adult psychiatry at Tufts-New England Medical Center in 1989.
