CAMBRIDGE
HEALTH ALLIANCE PSYCHOLOGIST HONORED BY AMERICAN PSYCHOANALYTIC
ASSOCIATION
Cambridge,
Chelsea, Everett, Medford, Revere, Somerville, Winthrop, MA…Cambridge
Health Alliance is proud to announce that psychologist Carolyn Zittel
Conklin, PhD, was recently awarded the 2006 Scientific Paper Award
from the American Psychoanalytic Association. The paper entitled
Countertransference Phenomena and Personality Pathology in Clinical
Practices: An Empirical Investigation was honored as the best published
empirical paper on a psychoanalytic topic. The paper was published
in the May 2005 American Journal of Psychiatry.
As
part of the study, a national random sample of 181 psychiatrists
and clinical psychologists in North America each completed a batter
of instruments on a randomly selected patient in their care. This
included an assessment of their own cognitive, affective, and behavioral
responses in interacting with this particular patient. The authors
of the study found that the countertransference phenomena can be
measured and that this could help understand the complexity of clinicians'
reactions toward their patients.
