HEALTH ALLIANCE WELCOMES NEW GASTROENTEROLOGIST
Cambridge,
Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Revere, Somerville, Winthrop,
MA….Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is pleased to announce that
Gastroenterologist Michael C. Payne, MD, MPH, has joined the Department
of Medicine and will be seeing patients at The
Cambridge Hospital and Somerville Hospital campuses.
“We
are very fortunate to have attracted such a talented and committed
physician to CHA,” said Rick Pels, MD, Acting Chief of Medicine.
“Dr. Payne joins our team at a very exciting time. As we prepare
to open our new Endoscopy Suite at Somerville Hospital, Dr. Payne
will be able to provide our communities with excellent gastrointestinal
care.”
CHA
Chief of Surgery, Steven Schwaitzberg, MD also adds that “Dr. Payne’s
skills will be central to CHA’s mission to care for our communities.
He will facilitate CHA’s colon cancer screening program. Screenings
are critical to the diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer, which
is curable if detected early.”
Dr.
Payne is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology
and specializes in upper and lower endoscopy, endoscopic ultra sound,
capsule endoscopy, and weight and health management. He is also
Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts Medical School.
Before
joining CHA, Dr. Payne practiced medicine in Nashville, Tennessee
and also served as the Chief of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy at
Williamstown Medical Associates in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
He is a Fellow in both the American College of Physicians and the
American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Payne is a graduate of
Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health.
He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at
Beth Israel Hospital and his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Tufts-New
England Medical Center.
