NEWS FROM CAMBRIDGE HEALTH ALLIANCE

FIVE CAMBRIDGE HEALTH ALLIANCE NURSES GRADUATE FROM IN-HOUSE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Medford, Revere, Somerville, Winthrop, MA….Five Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) nurses recently graduated from CHA’s in-house Perioperative Nursing training program. Perioperative care covers the time from when a patient is put into the hospital before surgery until the time the patient is discharged. This in-house training opportunity is one of several workforce programs at CHA that offers current employees the chance to learn new skills and develop in their careers.

Special thanks to Dale Strein, RN, for continuing to help other nurses achieve their career goals, and congratulations to our newest perioperative nurses: Linda DeGeorge, RN, Joan Pinkston-Maclellen, RN, BSN, Maryellen Rossini, RN, BSN, Carol Cammon, AS, RN, and Richard D'Avella, BS, RN.

Carol Cammon, AS, RN, Richard D’Avella, BS, RN, Linda DeGeorge, RN, Joan Pinkston-Maclellen, RN, BSN, and Maryellen Rossini, RN, BSN are the third class to complete the intensive 6-month course. The program included 6 weeks of didactic and class laboratory (utilizing Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses Guidelines and Standards) and 4.5 months of daily clinical work in the Operating Room with assigned preceptors.

These five nurses came from all of CHA's hospital campuses -- The Cambridge Hospital, Somerville Hospital, and Whidden Memorial Hospital. Four of them have Emergency Department experience and one is a former Senior Radiology Technician who recently graduated from nursing school. Today, they are ready to function as entry level Perioperative Nurses and are expected to increase their skills and knowledge in the following six months with guidance from their managers, preceptors, OR educator, and fellow staff.
