CAMBRIDGE
HEALTH ALLIANCE AND LONGY SCHOOL OF MUSIC COLLABORATE ON SERIES
OF HOSPITAL CONCERTS
Cambridge,
MA…The Arts in Healthcare Committee (Committee), in collaboration
with conservatory students from The Longy School of Music’s Experiential
Education Program are bringing music to Cambridge Health Alliance
(CHA).
A series
of concerts will held on April 24th, May 1st, and May 8th from 2:00pm
to 2:45pm in the lobby of The Cambridge Hospital. At each performance,
the Committee will invite attendees to note suggestions of additional
ways of bringing music to patients, families, and staff.
In
September, using the information collected at the performances,
the Committee hopes to bring musicians into CHA’s clinical areas,
such as maternity, oncology, psychiatry, pediatrics, and more. CHA
is committed to working collaboratively with local organizations
to bring new ideas and experiences to its patients and staff.
“Music
in the healthcare setting can be a healing aspect of a patient’s
recovery. In addition, musical performances can reduce stress and
provide a rejuvenating experience for hospital staff and visitors,”
said Linda Borodkin, a representative of the Arts in Healthcare
Committee, and Vice President of Organizational Development for
CHA.
The
Longy School of Music, founded in 1915, is a vibrant conservatory
and school of preparatory and continuing music education located
in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Conservatory students, considered master
musicians, work as colleagues-in-training with Longy’s gifted faculty.
Excellence, support and collaboration are all hallmarks of the Longy
Conservatory education and the school strives to prepare musicians
to make a difference in the world.
