TWO CAMBRIDGE HEALTH ALLIANCE PSYCHIATRISTS NAMED DISTINGUISHED
FELLOWS BY AMERICAN PSYCHIATRIC ASSOCIATION
Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Revere, Somerville,
Winthrop, MA….Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is honored to have
two psychiatrists elected as Distinguished Fellows by the American
Psychiatric Association (APA).
Jean Frazier, MD and Derri Shtasel, MD, MPH will be honored during
APA’s 2006 Annual Meeting to be held this coming May in Toronto,
Ontario, Canada. Meeting festivities include the Convocation of
Distinguished Fellows ceremony, lecture, and a President’s reception.
Distinguished Fellows are selected on a number of criteria such
as, participation in mental health and medical activities in their
communities, clinical and teaching contributions, and publication
in scientific and scholarly journals.
“This is the leading professional association in our field. It
is a noteworthy honor to celebrate this achievement for two Cambridge
Health Alliance staff members this year,” says Jay Burke, MD, MPH,
Chairman and Chief of the Department of Psychiatry and Professor
of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. “Jean Frazier and Derri
Shtasel are highly respected clinicians, devoted faculty, and they
mentor staff and colleagues while producing cutting-edge research.
This honor is most deserved and we look forward to all of their
future endeavors. We are very proud of both of them for their leadership
in the field and in the department.”
Jean
Frazier, MD, is Director of the Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatric
Research Program and the Co-Director of CHA’s Center for Child and
Adolescent Development. Dr. Frazier also serves as an Assistant
Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Frazier is
currently involved in research to study the possible clinical and
biological associations of the psychotic process in youths with
mental illness. In addition, Dr. Frazier has published numerous
articles and book chapters and as been honored by the National Alliance
for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society.
Derri
Shtasel, MD, MPH, is CHA’s Chief of Psychiatry, Adult Division and
Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical
School. Dr. Shtasel’s career has focused on providing clinical care
and developing service delivery programs for people with severe
and persistent mental illness. She has also provided leadership
in medical student and residency education over many years. Dr.
Shtasel is an internationally published physician and was honored
with the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award by the NAMI.
