Dr.
Slava Gaufberg graduated from Kalinin State Medical Institute in
the former Soviet Union. After training in OB/GYN and Anesthesia,
he directed a high risk labor and delivery unit in an Obstetrical
Hospital in Moscow.
He came to the
US as a political refugee in 1982, and after completing US licensing
requirements, did one year of General Surgical Residency at Maimonides
Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, a second year of OB/GYN Residency
at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boston, MA, and Transitional and Internal
Medicine Residency at Cambridge Health Alliance.
Dr. Gaufberg
has been practicing Emergency Medicine since 1988. He served as
the Associate Chief of The Cambridge Hospital Emergency Department
from 1994 to 2007.
Medical Education
has always been one of Dr. Gaufberg's main passions. He's been Director
of Medical Education and Training for the CHA Emergency Department
since 1991, and has been honored with the "Best Teacher Award"
by CHA residents. In 2008, Dr. Gaufberg accepted the position of
Director of the Transitional Residency.
Over his career,
Dr. Gaufberg has published on a broad range of Emergency Medicine
and educational topics. His articles appear in several journals
including Academic Emergency Medicine, Annals of Emergency Medicine,
and the American Journal of Emergency Medicine.
In his "out of hospital" career, he's enjoyed skiing,
kayaking, scuba diving, whitewater rafting, sailing, and mounting
climbing around the world, including climbing Mount Everest in 1990.
He also enjoys playing music and writing songs.
Slava Gaufberg
is married to Elizabeth Gaufberg, Director of Professional Development
for Cambridge Health Alliance. They have four daughters ages 12
to 18.
