Additional InformationAs Chief of Pediatrics at Cambridge Health Alliance and
Mount Auburn Hospital, I am proud to oversee the care of thousands of
children from across the greater Boston area. I also take great
pleasure in my academic activities, including many years of teaching
Harvard Medical students in the traditional pediatric block clerkship,
the new integrated clerkship, and in other venues.
As a pediatrician, I see public health as a core mission.
There are so many health issues that we can prevent or influence, such
as vaccines for preventable diseases, childhood asthma, and childhood
ADHD. These are among the most prevalent disorders children face. For
each of these areas, we have developed innovative “registries” that are
helping us improve the care for children. This includes our Childhood
Asthma Registry, which has dramatically reduced unscheduled visits by
asthmatic children to the emergency room and hospital admissions for
asthma, immunization registry, which has increased immunization rates to
historically high levels, and most recently, our childhood ADHD
Registry, which is aiming to optimize care for children with ADHD to
improve their academic performance and behavior.
Continuing this work requires a large number of partnerships
with stakeholders in the community – and we have been fortunate to
partner with area physicians, school nurses, school administrations and
municipal governments to ensure the success of our efforts.
In addition to working in the US on quality improvement, I
have also been involved overseas in Ukraine for the last thirteen years.
This work has led to new clinical and educational programs there
(including an annual post-graduate course in Ob and Pediatrics in
conjunction with Dr. Benjamin Sachs) which is leading to better lives
for countless children in need.
