Additional Information

I am a primary care physician at the Broadway Health Center and also Executive Director of the Institute for Community Health.

As an Internist, I initially trained in adult medicine. But I chose to pursue Adolescent Medicine because I really enjoy this age range. I had worked with teens while in college and wanted to continue working with them. I am very involved in public health and there is no better way to improve health than working with young people before they develop unhealthy behaviors. The potential for change and development in teens is challenging and exciting.

When I went to LA for my fellowship I wrote and received a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to start a school based health center at Los Angeles High School. Soon after the fellowship, I opened the clinic and began a long career in public and community health.

I continue to enjoy working with teens - I find them interesting, engaging and often in need of some coaching and mentorship.  I know that being part of a young person’s life, especially during difficult times, can lead to real improvements over time. It is great to see a young adult that you took care of as a teen and see how they have grown and developed and realize you were part of supporting that.

Today, my job is very diverse. I do administration, conduct research on supporting disadvantaged communities, and see patients. Each component is interesting and no two days are the same. These activities let me make a difference both in young people’s lives and in the communities in which they live. Being part of community change is very rewarding.

Outside of work I enjoy outdoor activities and exercise. My family are avid skiers and also like hiking and walking with our dogs. We love to travel and have been able to visit numerous places nationally and internationally. We also attend many of our children’s sports events.  I am a big fan of lots of forms of entertainment including reading, movies, concerts and musicals.
