ACUPUNCTURE SERVICES AT CHA MALDEN FAMILY MEDICINE
CENTER
The CHA Malden Family Medicine Center is proud to partner with
the New England School of Acupuncture to offer low-cost acupuncture
services to the local community. Services are provided by interns
in their third year of training at NESA. Since interns are still
learning, they will review and discuss all aspects of your diagnosis
and treatment with an experienced clinical faculty member. Additional
information about the school is available at http://www.nesa.edu.
Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world.
As part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture aims to restore
and maintain health through the stimulation of specific points of
the body using hair-thin metallic needles. Acupuncture has been
practiced in China and other parts of Asia for thousands of years.
Acupuncture may be effective for a variety of conditions including
low back pain, headaches, osteoarthritis, and nausea associated
with chemotherapy. People experience acupuncture differently, but
most feel no or minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Some people
feel energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed.
Appointment Information:
Appointments are available Thursdays from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Each
appointment lasts approximately 75 minutes and costs just $20. During
the initial visit, your intern will ask you a series of questions
to gain information about your current state of health, and any
problems you may be experiencing. A variety of styles of acupuncture
may be used in your treatment.
Traditional Chinese Medicine works cumulatively on the body, therefore
it is important to complete the full course of treatment as determined
by your provider. Please be sure to ask your intern how long and
often you should expect to come in for treatment. To facilitate
scheduling, and to ensure you can see the same intern each time,
the Front Desk staff will try to schedule your appointment for the
same day and time each week for the course of your prescribed treatment.
Patients are able to work with the same intern for a full semester
(12-15 weeks). Patients must switch to a new intern at the beginning
of the following semester.
Please avoid wearing scented perfumes, aftershave, lotions or body
oils to your acupuncture appointment.
Call 781.338.0050, Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, to schedule
an appointment.
Payment and Insurance Information:
Patients are expected to pay for the cost of the session ($20)
at the time of service. Cash, personal checks, and most major credit
cards are accepted.
Some insurance plans cover acupuncture, so check with your insurance
carrier to determine your eligibility. It is the responsibility
of the patient to coordinate reimbursement; we can not bill the
insurance company directly.
